I’ve been reading a little Ansel Adams lately and looking at a lot of his images. I’m not a big fan of all of his work, but some of his images are among my favorites. I’m certainly no Adams, but I took a crack at emulating his work a little in the last couple of days. Adams was known for his image manipulation through dodging and burning, something I had to do a fair bit of in this image, although by much simpler means.
It wasn’t as easy as I expected to capture this image. I was out for a walk and discovered a bush with these rings of flowers (can anybody tell me what this is?). I didn’t have a tripod on hand, plus the breeze was causing the bush to move a little, so motion blur was a problem. I went home and returned with a tripod and managed to pull this off at f/8; 1/30 sec; ISO 400. Canon 5D MkII; 24-70mm f/2.8L
